Im a big fan of Jake Stangel, he’s part of a circle of contemporary American photographers making aesthetically beautiful, humorously promoted, and downright brilliant work, mixing documentary style editorial photography with simply pretty cool images.
His blog / tumblr seems to be suffering from 404’s recently, but I had the chance earlier to read one of his posts that reveal a little of his thoughts when it comes to process, thoughts about photography etc (you should read if you haven’t already, his notes of trying to be successful and worthwhile - they great!), and his post today talks about the struggle between creating meanwhile that stands the test of the test of time and goes somewhere to challenging attitudes, with just simple editorial work that fills a brief. Its an honest comment which we as photographer or ‘creative’ practitioners face, and its nice to hear from time to time.
Anyway, if you’re reading this you probably know his work, but if not, keep a tab on his portfolio and I get the feeling 2013 might feature more personal work from Jake.
Over and out.
this this this this this! I love Jake’s work to no end. Everyone check him out!
